Stem Cells

There are still limitations to stem cell technology. One major limitation is that we are realizing age and environment can have a profound effect on stem cell function and even safety. Essentially, the older we are, the older all of our cells (including stem cells) become, and as a result, our bodies’ natural repair mechanisms deteriorate or stop.

The notion that “backing up” our cells and stem cells could be a valuable tool for improving and extending our health in the near future. We can stop the biological aging of our stem cells by putting them in a deep freeze at an earlier age, when they have fewer mutations and damage. Banking our stem cells will then allow us to eventually generate and bank other tissues for self-use, like a population of heart cells for cardiac repair or a population of liver cells to diagnose drug toxicity. As technology moves towards a future where it’s technologically possible to engineer tissues and organs from our own stem cells, backing stem cells up today can give us the best opportunity to use them when we need them.

Particle Physics Discovery: Fusing Heavy Quarks Can Produce 10 Times More Energy Than Nuclear Fusion

Quarks
Quarks are the most basic building blocks of matter. The protons and neutrons that make up matter are composed of quarks. Unlike protons and electrons, which have charges of +1 and -1, however, quarks have fractional electric charge. Quarks that are joined together form composite particles called hadrons. Quarks come in six flavors namely: up, down, top, bottom, strange and charm.
In a new study, researchers showed that two bottom quarks could theoretically fuse together in a powerful flash that can result in massive amount of energy that can spill out into the universe.
The fusion of two bottom quarks will produce will produce 138 megaelectronvolts (MeV), which is eight times more powerful than individual nuclear fusion events inside a hydrogen bomb.

The future unlocks the secrets of nature.

Rules Do Not Count in Subjectivity

Rule #2: Keep a sense of humor through all the absurdity. And, there’s a lot these days.

Subjective Annihilation Theory applies to our rhetorical human-symbolic quest for un-subjectivity (a state perhaps more commonly conceptualized as utopia or paradise) wherein we continuously strive to reduce our subjectivity to other things and conditions within our natural and socially constructed worlds.

Cultural Fashion

What role does eye candy play in our culture of consumption? When I came to Tupelo the thing I was told was the furniture industry is a fashion industry. Most of the commercials on TV are about how things look and not how they work. Nothing of what they are made of or who makes them. What makes one product better suited for the application than another? The auto sales pitch is a prime example. It is all about your emotions and how much others admire your purchase. The sales pitch is all about savings. You save nothing when you consume and spend money. The concept they use, as a ploy about savings, is how much less you pay from the imaginary retail price. Keystone is setting the retail price at double of what the retailer pays the manufacture for it. In cars the price is keep from the customer by bate and switch tactics. The dealer price is not what the car cost the dealer. There are holdbacks and other dealer incentives to make more dealer profits. Then the advertised price is not what it is going to cost you. They did not mention the cars they have are not the base cars as they have options. Then there is several dealer add ons such as cleaning, inspecting, marketing costs, sales tax, and the list goes on.

Why do we consume more than what it takes to survive a comfortable life? Most of it is status and how we look to our peers. We are a trained people to consume from the time we are born. The system requires growth to cover debts. Psychological manipulation has us working and buying. Planned obsolescence has us buy more and replace what we already have. We even pay to go places to be marketed to. The local home show is an example of that. Many people are not educated Engineers able to ask the right questions about the quality of the product. The sales man could not answer them anyway. What role does art play? Do collections bring happiness? In a finite world that sells tomorrow for a bit of fashion today, the total number of consumers plays the biggest role in humanity’s survival.

Antifa

Antifa is a far-left militant political movement of autonomous, self-described anti-fascist groups in the United States. The term is loosely used to refer to anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobia, as well as anarchist and anti-capitalist groups.

“A scuffle broke out between an Antifa member and a member of Black Lives Matter on Saturday during a rally to protest white supremacy and the Confederate monuments in Dallas. However, video captured one dustup that occurred — not between pro-Confederacy supporters and protesters but between Black Lives Matter and the radical leftist Antifa.

During the night, Black Lives Matter and Antifa squared off. Black Lives Matter members demanded Anitfa remove their masks and leave the city.”

It seems that the problem is not what people believe but a frustration with modern society and loss of a cohesive direction.

Genetics

One might be forgiven for assuming that Iceland has developed an innovative treatment for the chromosomal disorder. It turns out Iceland’s solution is much simpler, and much more sinister: using prenatal testing and abortion to systematically exterminate children with Down syndrome.

If you have government mandated health care, resources are limited and will result to rules that make it efficient. On the other hand resources are still limited and the individuals have to pay to play. Those without the resources can not afford to sustain life as long as the technology has made possible but not available to all that want it.

To Be or Not To Be a Consumer

Is the simple life a better life? Is free time better than being busy? Is thinking more rewarding than doing?

Our economy is based on being a worker/consumer but when basic needs are met does working more for material goods bring the purpose of life better meaning? Lots of questions with very complicated debates.

Anomaly

What do we really known about the future and chaos? Most humans use a heuristic approach to solving problems they do not have a strong background in dealing with complex problems.. This concept creates many unintended results for our future and the direction of the whole mass. Our expectations are based on math and a calculated results based on information of the past. Cause and effect to work, needs a high probability of past actions. When we lack the data and or experience of our every action and have no control of other people’s actions we have a future that has many anomalies.

Free Speech and Slander

Dawkins called Islam “the most evil religion in the world” in a speech last month.

Upon hearing the news that his talk was canceled, Dawkins fired back an open letter to KPFA. One of his questions gets right to the point: “I am known as a frequent critic of Christianity and have never been de-platformed for that. Why do you give Islam a free pass? Why is it fine to criticize Christianity but not Islam?”

Being a critic is part of free speech but promoting lies is not. Everyone has opinions and that is what makes this country great. There is a big difference between opinions and facts. Then the facts have got to have evidence to make them facts. When government forces people to to withhold opinions because of emotional distress it has stepped beyond its bounds. It is culture and virtue that expresses the wisdom to be careful of other people’s feelings. To not have virtue and wisdom is not a crime just a characteristic that does not win friends.

If a radio station has the right to cancel a guest so does the cake maker for being required to go against his beliefs.

MS Sales Tax on Amazon

The retail business is not supporting the state as in the past. We are moving into the 21 century to more efficient markets cutting out the middle man and reducing jobs. Consumption drives employment but it depends where the product is made. Many products are not available in MS retail stores so people buy them on line from all over the world. It is impossible to tax all the imports to MS. It would be a bigger job creator if MS had more exports than imports. This does not happen when the government is supported by sales tax. The incentive is to get people to spend money rather than invest it. How about a tax deduction for saving of income and a tax on the amount of income not saved? This would be a lot cheaper to enforces than trying to collect taxes from all over the world.
