Hypocrite

It seems that much of the public awareness is just watching acting. The news media is hype to stir emotions, marketing tries to get you to buy, groups want you to join their cause and donate. Many service workers put on a smile or show to please you even when they hate your guts. It is all about money or some type of greed. Look at the republican congressman that is against abortion until it is his girlfriend that gets pregnant. Police that take bribes or steal from those they arrest. Corporations that tell you the customer comes first but then are cheating to increase profits. Charities that pay executives high salaries and expenses. Religious organizations that abuse children and hide it then pay because of the courts but do not punish the offender.

Fake news is the result of hypocrites that want the truth but lie about it. Government is for all the people not just special causes that benefit a few. What ever happened to the truth that most people just do not know what is happening? Most people do not know if the media is telling the truth. I do not think the media even knows if what it is reporting is truth or some kind of marketing stunt. Have you seen those stories about some product or service that looks like a news story only to find out it is written by a corporate person as a news release.

In these days of mass communication less and less of what we see and read is truth.

WOKE

LOL, a word that has been mangled to project awareness of some social problems. It seems to be a product of the side that has the problems. Being aware requires one to not take sides but to understand all the facets and nuances of an issue. Better communication starts with the universal use of the language.

Cultural Fashion

What role does eye candy play in our culture of consumption? When I came to Tupelo the thing I was told was the furniture industry is a fashion industry. Most of the commercials on TV are about how things look and not how they work. Nothing of what they are made of or who makes them. What makes one product better suited for the application than another? The auto sales pitch is a prime example. It is all about your emotions and how much others admire your purchase. The sales pitch is all about savings. You save nothing when you consume and spend money. The concept they use, as a ploy about savings, is how much less you pay from the imaginary retail price. Keystone is setting the retail price at double of what the retailer pays the manufacture for it. In cars the price is keep from the customer by bate and switch tactics. The dealer price is not what the car cost the dealer. There are holdbacks and other dealer incentives to make more dealer profits. Then the advertised price is not what it is going to cost you. They did not mention the cars they have are not the base cars as they have options. Then there is several dealer add ons such as cleaning, inspecting, marketing costs, sales tax, and the list goes on.

Why do we consume more than what it takes to survive a comfortable life? Most of it is status and how we look to our peers. We are a trained people to consume from the time we are born. The system requires growth to cover debts. Psychological manipulation has us working and buying. Planned obsolescence has us buy more and replace what we already have. We even pay to go places to be marketed to. The local home show is an example of that. Many people are not educated Engineers able to ask the right questions about the quality of the product. The sales man could not answer them anyway. What role does art play? Do collections bring happiness? In a finite world that sells tomorrow for a bit of fashion today, the total number of consumers plays the biggest role in humanity’s survival.

Compassion

Does society have the power to demand the people have compassion? In the tale about the Good Samaritan several people passed without giving help. It seems the percent of people being good is a minority. In a democracy that would not be enough votes to pass.

Today’s world has a lot more rules and control over people. So much so that they can not be enforced so the government selectively enforces and that creates propaganda to get the others to follow the rules. But what about the requirement of the citizen’s obligation to report crime? When 90% of crime goes unpunished, I have to wonder about the system’s ability to protect me and my rights. Then we have local and state governments refusing to obey Federal laws. Where does that leave us?

I suspect we need to discriminate which people we are Good Samaritan’s to and which we have a natural fear to abandon. Do emotions always give us the best signal for survival for our selves and all of humanity? Those with the survival genes pass them on. Those that take more high risks do not live long enough to pass on their irrational emotional judgements. Yes some high risks pay off and some risk taking is necessary for progress. Are you smart enough to choose which?

Doing Something Is Better Than Doing Nothing

That depends on many factors. First is it talking about one particular issue or just the fact that having nothing in mind is bad. Is clearing your mind bad? What is the default of doing nothing? What is the probability of the default? Is the default a bigger problem than the first problem? How do you know the future? Cause and effect?

Many times doing nothing about the problem is the best solution as we have time to learn more or not need a solution. Many times acting on limited information gets us bigger problems. Acting on emotions can even kill us if we do not take time to think. Life is never simple enough to act on simple slogans.

Conversational Nature of Reality

The point between the past and future of our expectations and other’s expectations. What happens now that is not exactly what we are. Us on being.

Faith and Science

What exactly is the difference? Evidence?

Eugenics

Not forced eugenics but rather voluntary manipulation of your genetic code to promote health and better human beings. I understand the religious resistance in Mississippi against things like cloning but what if we could eliminate birth defects? There is no doubt humans being biological, that selective breeding could result in designer humans. There are many questions our children are going to face as morals and ethics always change.

The more we know what genes do and we have the ability to edit them, eggs can be fertilized grow to 8 cells and then decode the DNA and decide if it should be implanted to create a child. It will not help to put our hands over our eyes and ears and make believe that this is not available now and only be improved in the future. Life was never simple.

Hate Leads To Violence

“So I went to get a shake after the chiropractor and as I got out of my car all I hear is “you one of them neo-nazi?” As the dude was swinging a small pocket knife over my car door …. then he took off running and I was just sitting there in shock like what the heck dude

I have no tattoos that would indicate anything like that
There is nothing on the car that I am aware of that might suggest it
My head is not shaved

I just don’t understand this world anymore lol people are crazy”

Then we had a alt left winger pepper spay a news cameraman filming the demonstration. It would seem to me people have a right to their views and are free to express the words. They are not free to physically harm others expressing their views. Threats and damage to public and private property no matter what your views is against not only the law but against humanity. People do not have to like each other but the line is drawn when hate turns into physical damage.

On another note. “Absolutes solve nothing, help no one and in the end alienate possible like hearted individuals from helping in the stewardship conversation. Sane use of the planet and not the me conversation of how much can I get out of the moment to fill my ego and pockets, is the conversation we must all be part of if we ever hope to have a future holding as core a saner use of our one and only world.”

To Be or Not To Be a Consumer

Is the simple life a better life? Is free time better than being busy? Is thinking more rewarding than doing?

Our economy is based on being a worker/consumer but when basic needs are met does working more for material goods bring the purpose of life better meaning? Lots of questions with very complicated debates.
