artificial intelligence (AI)

All the knowledge of humans can be saved and stored for algorithms to take advantage of and to control the very needs of human survival. The quest for better quality and more efficient use of energy and resources is always continuing improvement. What is local government doing to improve its efficiency and lower cost of its services? Will machines be controlling humans? Why are we accepting the same old ways of doing things when AI is passing the backward humans?
Who is responsible for improving government operations?

How about higher human intelligence? Maybe eugenics? Gene manipulation? Implants in the brain? Where are poor decisions taking humanity? We can do better with better parenting skills.

How would humans keep AI from taking over and destroying humanity?

The bottom line is power corrupts so be careful who or what you allow to have power.

Support Freedom and Liberty

Should the government regulate emotions? Many people have different views and the founding fathers have defended freedom of speech short of slander as an American right worth fighting for. Sticks and stones can break bones but names do not harm me. Our education system has forget how to teach emotional control. The people of MS voted to keep the historic flag and it will continue. Because some have not learned emotional control they want to take freedoms away from the majority of mature citizens. No attempt to rob the freedoms fought for, change the responsible from demanding those freedoms. The U.S. has done many ugly things to maintain power including killing millions in a civil war. This must not be forgotten especially in textbooks laced with political propaganda. This is coming from a yankee.

Fuel Tax

The law makers in Jackson are not looking out for the best of the citizens. Roads and bridges are falling apart and the government does not have the money to fix them. So they want to add more taxes on fuel while giving a small break on income taxes. What is wrong with this picture? First few Mississippi citizens are getting raises above inflation and an added tax will mean cutbacks some place such as less driving fewer trips to the mall and fast food. Not taking low pay jobs far away and an increase of costs that are passed on to the customer such as lawn care deliveries etc.

What we need is a better quality more efficient way to have roads. We could use recycles plastics for road beds and have roads last three times as long. Who would be the losers? The road building companies and the law makers that get campaign contributions from them.

We need to elect law makers that are bright enough and wise enough to see the big picture and act with virtue not personal greed.

School Busing

Mandatory school busing for racial integration was one of the more controversial policies in American public education. Although busing was necessary for dismantling dual school systems in the south, this unpopular policy drove many middle class and white families away from city school systems, thereby contributing to greater segregation between city and suburban school districts. Were the costs both human and economic worth it and justified?
There is a relatively common finding that African American student achievement is enhanced by less segregated schooling…. the earliest studies tend to focus on the effects of court ordered desegregation, and therefore, to combine the impacts of racial composition per se with various policy actions.

The community and children lose when they have to spend time being transported. Countless hours on buses by children rob them of other beneficial experiences they can have walking to school. Behavior problems on buses create a negative start of the school day. Cultural differences take teacher time away from learning. Children are forced to leave school at the same time not allowing after school help and tutoring. Parents are taken away from neighborhood relations with other parents. The social structure collapses and isolates members of the community. Different learning styles and levels are mashed together to benefit no one.

All for some utopian idea that everyone has and equal I.Q. and abilities? What can be done to improve public education for all children and what can be done to prevent children being born into poverty to parents that do not have parenting skills?

Can the U.S. afford to pay huge sums to drivers, corporations, to fleet a pollution causing transportation that has never been proven to improve education?

Cloning

“Chinese Scientists Clone Monkeys Using Method That Created Dolly The Sheep”

Regardless of religious beliefs science moves on. The mistake in Mississippi is they always want to be last. This leads to crime and suffering. Poor people want socialism health care when in fact it is impossible to provide the maximum health care to everyone. There simply are not enough resources as the cost to extend a life another year can cost more than the lifetime earnings of that person. Cloning and DNA repair are examples of high cost care that can not be available to everyone. For example look at the UK health care system.

Britain’s National Health Service is overwhelmed with patients waiting for care, as doctors lament that they have to practice “battlefield medicine” while conditions are so dire.

Earlier this month, the New York Times reported that hospitals are declaring “black alerts,” a warning that they are unable to fulfill patients’ needs. Patients fill waiting rooms and hallways while waiting hours for care, sometimes only to be turned away, and hospitals have been ordered to halt “nonurgent surgeries” until the end of January.

Fact is earning and saving for extended life is the individual’s choice not a right from government.

Efforts and Chance

“Last year, Kahn emailed Cook out of the blue with hopes that he would speak with her for a computer class project. Her email led to a phone call, during which Kahn interviewed Cook and got his thoughts on how to increase diversity in tech, as well as the seed of an idea for a larger initiative that would give many more women access to this unique opportunity. Today, Apple and the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) announced a new partnership program, Innovator to Innovator, that will pair young women interested in careers in STEM with Apple executives for a one-on-one conversation.”

In sales there are many failures before success. Thinking outside the box and making the extra effort to try is how we became not one of those “shithole” countries.

What if TVA workers decided not to go to work because it is cold? Many around the country are putting up with normal winter conditions to keep the country going.

Tax Dollars to Grants

Here are some of the research projects selected for NEH grants:

A study of “18th century sexuality”
A study about bells in Bulgaria
A propaganda study based on the theory that Fox News can brainwash liberals
A virtual exhibition of more than 90 pieces of New Deal art from the town of Gallup, New Mexico
A book-length study documenting California wine history and its intersection with labor relations
An “immersive” video game about alchemy

When the citizen does not spend money, it does not have, the government spends money it does not have, to employ people. Even if nothing is accomplished. How long and how much debt do we let government debt get before it collapses?

Educationism

For those who are less educated due to their disadvantaged background, they face a subtle but pervasive bias. A new report in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology named the term “educationism” and for the first time found clear evidence for what Fusarelli and many others have long suspected: educated people are implicitly biased against the less educated. And this has unfortunate, unintended consequences that often stem from the gap between the rich and poor.

Active thinking has to give up time to accommodate those with less cognitive ability. Having abilities in common is a natural way people discriminate. Society or government can not force people to be the same. The gene lottery and the family lottery ends up making people not equal.

Cell Phones and Health

“In a surprising move this week, however, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) weighed in on the debate, warning people, especially kids, to stay away from cellphones whenever possible. The agency also issued guidelines on how to reduce exposure to radio frequency energy.”“Although the science is still evolving, there are concerns among some public health professionals and members of the public regarding long-term, high use exposure to the energy emitted by cellphones,” Dr. Karen Smith, CDPH Director and State Public Health Officer, said in a statement. Aside from brain and head cancer, the guidelines note, radio frequency energy has been suspected of causing infertility, headaches, and memory or learning problems.

Everything has risks so weight them against the benefits. Do we always need instant communication?

Last Again

The 10 least healthy states:
Mississippi
Louisiana
Arkansas
Alabama
West Virginia
Tennessee
South Carolina
Oklahoma
Kentucky
Georgia
For the second year in a row, Mississippi (No. 50) has the greatest opportunity for improvement in
overall health. Why are we building monuments with tax money instead of improving the health of the citizens?
