Recycled

“The U.S. generates more recyclable waste than any other country and China is the top customer for that scrap. China’s 25% tariff on U.S. scrap aluminum would make reusable metal from other countries more appealing. ”
==========
If a community can not recycle materials in less than 50 miles it is not saving anything. All recycling needs to be done locally to have energy savings and it be profitable. For example tupelo sends its waste plastics over 100 miles away and charges the citizen on top of the effort it expects the citizen to do. When it much more feasible to use the recycled plastics processed into road sections that last 4 times longer than asphalt.

What is the problem? Could it be the good old boy club protecting old money interests? Or is it just lack of ability to change into a better way of doing things? Mississippi is last place in so many things because it refuses to change. This drives the next generation top students to other places.

Solar

“The number of homeowners installing solar panels fell last year, as top installers including Tesla abandoned aggressive sales practices that drove breakneck growth.”

Using solar energy still has more problems and costs than buying from the local utility. The aggressive marketing and tax breaks paint a rose tainted glasses view of reality. In real life solar needs more work to be cheaper and reliable to have a positive payback in its life time and provide energy when you need it. It is nowhere near the commercial payback of three years many businesses require to make an investment.

Coffee

A Los Angeles judge has determined that California law requires coffee companies to carry an ominous cancer warning label because of a chemical produced in the roasting process.
In 2016, the International Agency for Research on Cancer — the cancer agency of the World Health Organization — moved coffee off its “possible carcinogen” list.
The coffee industry had claimed the chemical was present at harmless levels and should be exempt from the law because it results naturally from the cooking process necessary to make the beans flavorful.
Studies indicate coffee is unlikely to cause breast, prostate or pancreatic cancer, and it seems to lower the risks for liver and uterine cancers, the agency said. Evidence is inadequate to determine its effect on dozens of other cancer types.

It seems to me this is just another way for lawyers to make money.

Google

Google stores your location (if you have it turned on) every time you turn on your phone, and you can see a timeline from the first day you started using Google on your phone, going in so far as the time of day I was in the location and how long it took me to get to that location from my previous one.Google stores search history across all your devices on a separate database, so even if you delete your search history and phone history, Google STILL stores everything until you go in and delete everything, and you have to do this on all devices.Google creates an advertisement profile based on your information, including your location, gender, age, hobbies, career, interests, relationship status, possible weight (need to lose 10lbs in one day?) and income.Google stores information on every app and extension you use, how often you use them, where you use them, and who you use them to interact with (who do you talk to on facebook, what countries are you speaking with, what time you go to sleep at. Google stores ALL of your YouTube history, so they know whether you’re going to be a parent soon, if you’re a conservative, if you’re a progressive, if you’re Jewish, Christian, or Muslim, if you’re feeling depressed or suicidal, if you’re anorexic…Google offers an option to download all of the data it stores about you, I’ve requested to download it and the file is 5.5GB BIG, which is roughly 3 MILLION Word documents.Your bookmarks, emails, contacts, your Google Drive files, all of the above information, your YouTube videos, the photos you’ve taken on your phone, the businesses you’ve bought from, the products you’ve bought through Google.our calendar, your Google hangout sessions, your location history, the music you listen to, the Google books you’ve purchased, the Google groups you’re in, the websites you’ve created, the phones you’ve owned, the pages you’ve shared, how many steps you walk in a day.

Facebook

“What this means is that even more than it is in the advertising business, Facebook is in the surveillance business. Facebook, in fact, is the biggest surveillance-based enterprise in the history of mankind. It knows far, far more about you than the most intrusive government has ever known about its citizens. It’s amazing that people haven’t really understood this about the company. I’ve spent time thinking about Facebook, and the thing I keep coming back to is that its users don’t realise what it is the company does. What Facebook does is watch you, and then use what it knows about you and your behaviour to sell ads. I’m not sure there has ever been a more complete disconnect between what a company says it does – ‘connect’, ‘build communities’ – and the commercial reality. Note that the company’s knowledge about its users isn’t used merely to target ads but to shape the flow of news to them. Since there is so much content posted on the site, the algorithms used to filter and direct that content are the thing that determines what you see: people think their news feed is largely to do with their friends and interests, and it sort of is, with the crucial proviso that it is their friends and interests as mediated by the commercial interests of Facebook. Your eyes are directed towards the place where they are most valuable for Facebook.”

By John Lanchester

Facebook offers a similar option as Google to download all your information from their files. This includes every message you’ve ever sent or been sent, every file you’ve ever sent or been sent, all the contacts in your phone, and all the audio messages you’ve ever sent or been sent.Facebook also stores what it think you might be interested in based off the things you’ve liked and what you and your friends talk about. Somewhat pointlessly, they also store all the stickers you’ve ever sent on Facebook. They also store every time you log into Facebook, where you logged in from, what time, and from what device. And they store all the applications you’ve ever had connected to your Facebook account.
Side-note, if you have Windows 10 installed, JUST the privacy options with 16 different sub-menus, which have all of the options enabled by default when you install Windows 10.This includes tracking where you are, what applications you have installed, when you use them, what you use them for, access to your webcam and microphone at any time, your contacts, your e-mails, your calendar, your call history, the messages you send and receive. The files you download, the games you play, your photos and videos, your music, your search history, your browsing history, even what RADIO stations you listen to.This is one of the craziest things about the modern age, we would never let the government or a corporation put cameras/microphones in our homes or location trackers on us, but we just went ahead and did it ourselves.

The Laws Don’t – and Can’t – Keep Up With Technology

Government needs to change to be effective in the modern world. No longer can survival depend on majority votes, especially with the details of sociology and psychology using propaganda to manipulate the masses.

Fab Lab

It all started at MIT. Bringing the future to small places around the world. Fab lab is a shop with all the modern equipment to design and make anything. It is interconnected with a network of computers and over several thousand of other Fab labs. The equipment is donated by non profit funds as long as local organizations supply a building and upkeep. It is open to all ages and has mentors to help the learners make anything they dream up.

Then we have MIT Media lab and the Computer Clubhouse that helps young people to learn how to build things and program them using simple programing language like Scratch that can control circuits like those made by Lago.

Just the thing needed in Tupelo to creative minds make creative things starting out young before then are stamped into worker/consumers. Why is CDF not taking up the slack of our failing schools? Where is the creativity people had in kindergarten? Classrooms are not the way everyone learns. Sharing ideas over a network around the world works well for budding creative artistic minds. Team work with knowledge.

Opportunity or Marketing?

Many doors are called opportunities when they are opened by a marketer. The only real opportunities are those you create yourself. Those successful billionaires that started with nothing did not wait for some big corporation to build a plant or government to give them a job.

An example is the marketing for Presidents Day is presented by the news media as and opportunity to buy for less when in fact the retailer pays the same for the goods as he does all year unless he is getting a volume discount. This means you can get the cheaper price anyway as long as you talk with the owner. Many people are suffering from the psychological manipulation of propaganda and never ever know they are pawns used by the people in power.

Perhaps public schools should teach the psychology used to make the citizen into a worker/consumer.

Firearms

“It seems like our elected state legislature thinks it would be good to allow guns to be carried on college campus and in all public places. ”
========
Not exactly please do not fall victim to propaganda headlines. This issue that the legislature is debating is can licensed concealed firearms owners bring suite against public building and places prevented them from from the licensed ability to carry their firearm. License holders were always legal to carry in public places. The new law only adds the provision that gives license owners a way to stop the local security from giving them a hassle. The requirement to get a license is an extensive class in the use and laws involving the use and ownership of a firearm. Then you are checked for any crime record and finger printed in the national data base that is checked when crimes are committed. Then charged over $100 and wait more than a month to get the license.

The idea is to stop the criminals that know no one they are targeting can fight back. This is just common sense and the freedom this government was founded on. As for drunks and people that can not control their emotions we have a history of their abuse and criminal records. Perhaps the sporting events need to tone down the emotional entertainment. We need good guys protecting the feeble from the bad guys.

Raley did not hold anything back. She wrote:

Until we, as a country, are willing to get serious and talk about mental health issues, lack of available care for the mental health issues, lack of discipline in the home, horrendous lack of parental support when the schools are trying to control horrible behavior at school (oh no! Not MY KID. What did YOU do to cause my kid to react that way?), lack of moral values, and yes, I’ll say it-violent video games that take away all sensitivity to ANY compassion for others’ lives, as well as reality TV that makes it commonplace for people to constantly scream up in each others’ faces and not value any other person but themselves, we will have a gun problem in school. Our kids don’t understand the permanency of death anymore!!!

artificial intelligence (AI)

All the knowledge of humans can be saved and stored for algorithms to take advantage of and to control the very needs of human survival. The quest for better quality and more efficient use of energy and resources is always continuing improvement. What is local government doing to improve its efficiency and lower cost of its services? Will machines be controlling humans? Why are we accepting the same old ways of doing things when AI is passing the backward humans?
Who is responsible for improving government operations?

How about higher human intelligence? Maybe eugenics? Gene manipulation? Implants in the brain? Where are poor decisions taking humanity? We can do better with better parenting skills.

How would humans keep AI from taking over and destroying humanity?

The bottom line is power corrupts so be careful who or what you allow to have power.
