Learned Helplessness

What is the reason so many can not succeed? Could it be that our children are giving up before they identify their abilities? When do you stop being tenacious and depend on others? Why are people not inspired to complete a dream? What in the Tupelo experience, stops excellence and paramount success?

Tupelo Census

With all the computers and data sets why are we not cross checking data sets? Census needs to be crossed checked with the motor vehicle records of owner tags and driver licenses. The social security address needs to crosscheck as well as tax records bank records and mail records. Many private marketing databases are much better than the public records.

In April, the American Civil Rights Union, a conservative legal group, sued Walthall County, Miss., for having 124 percent more registered voters than voting-age-eligible residents, based on U.S. Census data. The lawsuit was filed under the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, better known as the Motor Voter law, and is the first privately-brought suit to succeed, according to the ACRU.

In the midst of a national debate over voter integrity, a federal court decree is ordering a Mississippi county to purge its voter rolls of dead people, ineligible felons and people who have moved out of a voting area.

Our town is using census numbers for important decisions which I know are not accurate because the construction permits are not reported to the census mail outs. We also have many more registered voters than on the census records.

When Survival is Not a Motivator

Can it be possible to have adult humans that are not born defective but can not do simple tasks good enough to survive? The other day in a big box store an employee took more time, times their wage to prepare an item at the cost it sold for. Business can not survive with this type of employee and the employee is not doing the things they need to do to survive. In a system that motivates people with rewards a positive cash flow is required or it runs down like a watch that has not been wound up.

I asked myself if this was a deliberate act to end the job as the person seemed to just be going through the motions and not wanting to improve. It was like a child playing at being stupid to get out of doing work. Are welfare recipients forced to go to jobs? Has TV reduced people to poorly trained animals? What happened to the pride of earning your survival?
