Abuse of Health Insurance

“Under a plan by a city council member in Ohio, people who dial 911 seeking help for someone who’s overdosing on opioids may start hearing something new from dispatchers: “No.”

In response to the opioid epidemic that swept the nation — including the small city of Middletown, population 50,000 — council member Dan Picard has floated an idea that has been called more of “a cry of frustration” than a legitimate solution.

At a council meeting last week, Picard proposed a three-strikes-style policy for people who repeatedly overdose: Too many overdoses and authorities wouldn’t send an ambulance to resuscitate them.

Picard told The Washington Post that he sympathizes with anyone who has lost someone to drug abuse, but said that responding to an ever-increasing number of overdose calls threatens to bleed his city dry.”

There are finite resources to help people live longer. How do we decide who gets what? If the individual does not take responsible care of themselves should the public be forced to pay to keep them alive?

” A total of 111 people in California took their own lives using lethal prescriptions during the first six months of a law that allows terminally ill people to request life-ending drugs from their doctors, according to data released Tuesday.”The US faces an increasing opioid epidemic — has Obamacare been a contributing factor?
“In the end, entropy always wins.”

Finite Resources

The world population is now nearly 7.6 billion, up from 7.4 billion in 2015, spurred by the relatively high levels of fertility in developing countries – despite an overall drop in the number of children people have around the globe – the United Nations today reported.

What is Education?

“Exclusive Test Data: Many Colleges Fail to Improve Critical-Thinking Skills”

“Freshmen and seniors at about 200 colleges across the U.S. take a little-known test every year to measure how much better they get at learning to think. The results are discouraging.”

The standard college model is not education but rather job training. Thinking requires people not to be politically correct or memorize and feed back facts. Thinking requires the ability to use experience to be creative to solve problems you never faced before. Today’s colleges just provide reasons which may not be all facts but based on cultural traditions.

“Harvard University revoked admission offers to at least 10 incoming students after the school discovered the individuals were posting explicit and obscene memes in a Facebook chat group that advocated sexual assault and mocked the death of children.”

Harvard is shielding students from getting experience in the real world. Some of these students will be fighting wars and crime. No wonder the students do not improve “Critical-Thinking-Skills’.
